Membership

There are currently three classes of membership that new applicants may apply for:
  • "Ordinary Member", "Student Member" and "Affiliate Member"

  • All applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants.

  • To apply for Ordinary Membership an applicant must have been a full time marine surveyor for five years within the preceding seven years (the last twelve months must have been served in Canada).

  • Depending on the applicant's previous qualifications and/or experience he/she will be given credits to reduce the initial five year requirement.

  • A Student Member is any individual who, on entering the General Marine Survey field, does not qualify as an Ordinary Member but, nevertheless, wishes to pursue Ordinary Membership in the future. As a "Student Member" you are required to complete a number of taks before being considered for Ordinary Membership.

  • Affiliate Membership is available to non-practising individuals who have an interest in the Association and its activities.

  • All applicants will be required to complete a Membership Application form and also submit samples of their survey reports along with copies of any documentation/certification which provides evidence of previous experience and/or qualifications.

  • Applications are reviewed by a Membership Committee and, in the case of "Ordinary Membership" will involve a written or oral examination.

  • All members are bound by The Code of Ethics of the Association.

  • Requests for further information regarding membership requirements or for a Membership Application Package should be made directly to the Membership Director.
