Minutes of the Board Meeting held Monday, November 16th 2009
St. James Well Pub, In Attendance: President - Treasurer - Secretary - Pat Haliburton Capt. Don Tranter It was agreed by all
that the meeting held aboard the B.C. Ferry Coastal Renaissance in
September was well received by those who attended. It is felt that
future meetings like this should be held to make it a little easier for
both mainland and island based members to attend. Richard advised that
the Committee struck to review Membership By-Laws and Rules would
produce a draft resolution before the new year to enable the Board and
membership to have input prior to the AGM in 2011 when it is anticipated
that the resolution will be presented for a vote by the membership. Alistair advised
that further discussion with the provincial government regarding charter
status must be put off until we have made the necessary changes to our
by Laws and Membership Rules. Roy advised that we
have received a letter of thanks from the Honorable Company of Master
Mariners for our donation to the tea provided following the Remembrance
Day service at Sailor's Point. Treasurer's report
was circulated. Roy pointed out that we have 37 paid members with
another three accepted members, Colin Jones, Jeff Sun and Talal
Al-Skouti who have yet to remit their initiation fees and annual dues. Richard advised that
he has ordered membership stamps for all of the newly accepted members
as well as for Don Kimura. He will make up certificates once the stamps
have been delivered. Richard suggested that he arrange to Fed Ex Mr.
Kimura's certificate and stamp to him along with a letter of apology for
the delay in getting this done. All agreed. It was agreed that
the 2011 AGM should be held at our usual venue The Executive Inn at
North Road and Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. Richard will make contact
with them to reserve that date. Some suggestions
were made for a guest speaker at our AGM. Alistair suggested that we
should invite someone from the Canadian Navy as 2010 will be their
Centennial. It was agreed that this would be a good idea and Alistair
will look into getting us a suitable speaker. Respectfully
submitted Richard Smith -
