Items of Discussion

1) AMSBC Advertisement in Ports Handbook:

As discussed earlier and recorded in previous minutes, it was agreed that the AMSBC advertisement in the next installment of the Ports Handbook would be reduced in size to a quarter page with emphasis on the Association name and logo.

The focus of the advertisement would be to encourage those interested to visit the website where Members details have been posted according to areas of expertise. Richard Smith is to be credited for his efforts in re-vamping the website to include these details.

Members are encouraged to visit the website www.amsbc.org to review personal details, obtain contact information, read the minutes of previous meetings, post items of interest or just browse. This would raise the number of ‘hits’, thereby increasing the prominence of the website in a search engine.

2) Representation at Seminars:

Richard Smith proposed that the AMSBC sponsor a representative to the forthcoming Asia / Canada Maritime Conference to be held in Vancouver, BC on October 2nd / 3rd 2006. Some of the Board Members expressed concern at the expense this would incur. It was decided to seek the Members’ opinion on the matter at the next General meeting.

Richard Smith also reminded the Board that the Fall seminar of the Nautical Institute was scheduled for October 28th and inquired as to whether the Association would be a sponsor at the event.

It was agreed that the AMSBC would spend CAD 250/- towards sponsorship of this event.

3) Harbour Cruise Tickets:

Alistair Beaton stated that since there had been limited attendance at this year’s Annual Harbour Cruise, extra tickets were still available. He proposed that the Association organize another cruise outing for Members and their guests. Members would be informed at the next General Meeting and a date set for this proposed outing.

Conclusion:

The Directors Meeting concluded around 13:30 hours.
